I have received an e-mail from Donald Harington assuring me that he is "alive if not well", relearning to walk. DH was touched and pleased by all the get well messages sent to him and he is looking forward to continue working on his approriately -if coincidentally- titled novel "Enduring". DH has endured much himself lately and I'm sure all the well wishes and positive vibes sent his way have been of great help.Thak you,Your Webmistress.

Maybe I'm just too dumb to navigate this site and have missed the information somewhere, but how is Mr. Harington these days?  Is his health fully restored?  Has he endured the recovery and  finished the novel he was working on last year?  I hope he hasn't come down with the frakes or--Joshua Crust forbid--westered off.  If someone can point me in the direction of some other place, the right place for recent information regarding this beloved writer, I'd be most appreciative.  Thanks.

Any news on Mr. Harington's health?  I've checked back here a few times since I asked last fall, and I still can't find any encouraging information regarding this site's hero.   Has this become the Internet version of Stay More?
If anybody knows anything about how Mr. Harington is doing and whether or not the novel ENDURING will soon be available, I would love to hear from her or him.   kedrick4444@yahoo.com   Thanks!!!

I would also very much like to know how Don and Kim are doing. I've been out of touch with them for some time now ... at least two books ago!

Unfortunately, my e-mails to the Webmistress at this site have gone unanswered over the past few months. About this, and about updating the link to my article about Don in the Links section.

Well, in the month since the last post, I've been in brief contact with DH via e-mail. For those who still come across this Website, I will try to report the most important items as dispassionately as I can:

~ He's retiring from his position on the art-history faculty at the University of Arkansas as of 1 May (the publication date of Farther Along), after 22 years of teaching. He looks forward to having all his time available to write.

~ He has completed the manuscript for Enduring, which will be the full story of Stay More's Latha Bourne, and sent it to his current publisher, Toby Press, in late March.

~ He no longer wants to be in continuing e-mail correspondence with anyone, and apparently has actively refused all such contacts for several years now.

~ He believes that the quality of his writing has markedly improved, from With onwards, since he cut off all such e-mail about himself and his work.

~ The unfortunate state of neglect of this (nominally official) Website apparently does not matter to him, for as with all other topics — including his health — he refuses to discuss it.

I would have posted the text of his e-mail here, but I did not obtain his consent to do so. I am respecting his wishes by not e-mailing him about it. This, in effect, would have been the only way to reach him with immediacy, as he cannot use the telephone. (I have sent snail-mail to him, and it hasn't yet been returned.)

This posting will probably be my last on this Website. I wanted to note that my Arkansas Democrat-Gazette article about DH from 1996 (with some updates) is now available, and will remain so for the indefinite future, at the following link (which opens in a new window) —

http://mysite.verizon.net/starhavenite/dh/dh-article.html

I have added this link, along with some of the information above, to the article about DH at Wikipedia. The link has been updated in the page about DH at the Encyclopedia of Arkansas site, but not at other locations on the Web.

I get it now!!!!

Ok, I want to talk to people about the slightly beyond incredible nature of Harington's novels!  Also, how can I get my eyes to look at a family tree of the Stay More community?????? Is it online?  Is it possible. It would help so much, especially after his new book, which, by the way, I loved!

I am sorry to learn that Dr Harington is retreating, but I understand. I have recommended The Choiring of the Trees to Minnesota Public Radio for their midmorning book club. I  look forward to his latest work , and wish he and Kim well..  I've been a huge fan since his Intro to Art History class back in the Fall Semester of '71.
