First user post in the DonaldHarington.com forum? Now, that's an honor!

I've been a friend of Don and Kim Harington for nearly nine years now, since we all met (originally) on-line as fans of the late, great, lamented TV series My So-Called Life. Within a year I'd read 10 of Don's books, and then had to wait for more ... but that didn't stop me from writing a sizable article about Don's work for the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette in the Spring of 1996. (Updated link: Available on-line here.)

Malaise Lindenfeld wrote to me about linking the article, but before I could say that I'd very much appreciate it, Don himself told me about this site. Where's he at, Kim? You're here!

I'll have more to share later in the Books section and elsewhere. In the meantime, I go by both Steve and Greybird — more later about my, er, flying tastes in visual art {grin}. I hope to meet many other Harington fans here — soon and with great pleasure.

Hello Steve and welcome to the board!

Sorry I did not wait for your response before contacting DH but when I get an idea it just takes hold and there's very little I can do other than run with it!  Either way, I needed to get his consent either way.  I did not want to do a site against his wishes.  I have enjoyed your wonderful article as I'm sure all of DH's fans have/will.

Mal

Mal, thanks for your kind comments about my article. And please change the link for it on your "Links" page to read as follows ...

I should note that my 1996 newspaper article on Don and his work has changed its on-line
location again, with a change in Internet provider. (No real way to make a "permanent"
link unless one buys and holds onto a domain name!)

The link should be changed on the Links page, as well ... Mal? You there? Hellooooooo ....

Since this is also an intro thread, you can find out about some non-DH attributes of me
here (including where that avatar came from {g}) ...

And, what the hey, let's try that YouTube embedding ...

Hi all, I'm a new member but have been reading DH for a long time.  My first was Some Other Place when it was a book of the month selection in 1974 or so.  It remains one of my all-time favorite books and I re-read it every few years.  In the years since then, I have managed to track down and purchase, read, and re-read all of his books.  I was thrilled to discover that his new book, Farther Along, is now available.  I have already ordered it and it is on its way to me!  Harington is one of my favorite authors, the others being Kurt Vonnegut, John Irving, and Tom Robbins.  Pretty good company... all smart, intricate, and funny!
And yes, I even made a side trip off the interstate through the Arkansas countryside a few years ago.  Of course I was not looking for the fictional Stay More; I just wanted to get a feel for the country he writes about.  When staying in a hotel in Fayetteville, I even looked him up in the phone book just out of curiosity, but chickened out of calling him.
Donald, your books never fail to disappoint -- they are simply wonderful and have been good company to me for many years.  Keep 'em coming!

Let's get some conversation going!  I love Harington's books slightly beyond massively and I would really enjoy hearing other people's comments.

Hey, is there anyway we could get a Stay More Family Tree up on the site. My brain isn't the type that does well holding all these family relations and I'd love to just take a quick peek, especially after reading Further Along!!!

Jeff,

I will ask DH about the Family Tree but maybe if he's too busy someone can take care of this or maybe give me a hand?

I'll help you in any way I can.  I really want to have a nice clear tree I can look at with some names and dates.
