I'm currently in the middle of "Architecture..." I'd like to read more of the Stay More books. Can anyone recommend a good order to read them in? Does it matter? Thanks.

Cronological order is my recomendation, including novels that don't even start in 'Stick Around'. They may just end up in that other place.

I agree with the best way being chronological.  You are now reading kind of a general history of Stay More so you have a pretty good base to read just about any of the books but still...  I feel in chronological order would be the better way.  And...  Enjoy!

I didn't read them chronologically at all and still got swept up in them right away (although I admit  I might have more tolerance than the average bear for things not being in linear order). I started with "Some Other Place..." and didn't get around to "Architecture" until much later. The only thing I'd definitely recommend is to save "13 Albatrosses" for later, as it has several references to his other books. Enjoy!

Heck.. I've random scatter-shotted them and managed to make some sense of it.  Lately I've come to the decision that I need to start over.   So... chronological may save you some of the problems I've had. That disquieting sense that you've been here before, but you dare not raise your hand to ask a question, lest he point you out for the fraud that you are....

What the hell was that about?

I'd say chronologically, because of the way he works previous stories and characters into later ones. But he is not really methodical about this, so other orders are OK...and it's just as fun to discover a character from a later book in an earlier book.

One caveat: I would skip "The Cherry Pit" altogether. It is his first one (and mercifully out of print), and doesn't even seem like it is from the same author. If you start with that one, you may not want to read any more. And it is nto tied to the Stay More cycle at all (unless I missed something).

Hmmm, I'll have to disagree. I quite enjoyed the cherry pit. Maybe because it was the first one I read while I was in one of his art history classes. Although it is not tied to Staymore, it takes place mostly in Little Rock, AR. I found a lot of similar themes that he uses in all his other novels like returning to your hometown, analogies on art and his idyllic takes on sex. It's a very fun and hilarious journey(possibly inspired by some true events?) returning to a very familiar place to notice that many things have changed and some never will. It was a great way to introduce me to his writing before I got all caught up in Lightning Bug and Some Other Place, The Right Place and on down the line.... Happy reading fellow fans! I can't wait until his new novel.

A couple of other thoughts about reading order:

I'd read "Some Other Place. The Right Place." early on, because he kind of, sort of gives away the ending to that one in a couple of other books. And "13 Albatrosses" if full of references to his other books, so I'd leave that one til near the end.
