Greetings all,I figured it was time to de-lurk and introduce myself. My name's Suzy, I'm a twentysomethingand I'm currently attending the University of Toronto, doing my degree in English Literature. Some of my favourite things are: reading (mostly Restoration + 18th century lit... Dryden, Rochester, Behn, Swift, Samuel Johnson, etc.), animals (cats, especially), music (jazz + classical).Although I've only read five of Donald Harington's books as yet, his writing captivates me like few authors I've encountered in my vast readings. He's also had a huge impact on my reading habits. For example, I'd hated Nabokov based on the one novel I'd read of his, but Harington'sadmiration ofVN made me pick him up again, and boy am I glad I did! Right now I'm even taking a course on Nabokov's English novels. It's so cool that whenI was poking around on Zembla (a Nabokov website) I came across an excerpt of Ekaterina, "a fine example of[a text]inspired by Nabokov." Yeah! My prof has never read DH but I'll bother him until he does!

Hey suzy!  Glad to have you aboard.  Which of DH's books have you read?  I'm glad reading him changed your mind on nabokov...  I can't imagine life without "Lolita".

In other news... I was just poking LJ for lack of something better to do (or rather, to avoid doing things that need to be done) and found your journal.  Strange.  There's only three people there who list DH and you are one.

So far I've read (and re-read in a few cases) The Architecture of the Arkansas Ozarks, The Choiring of the Trees, With, The Cherry Pit, and Thirteen Albatrosses. I plan to acquire the rest of his novels and read them over Christmas and the summer holiday, when I'll actually have time to do some reading for pleasure.

What a weird coincidence that you stumbled upon my LJ, and all thanks to DH!

I think Architecture might be my favorite.  Maybe because it's almost like a full history of Stay More and then other books are more detailed chapters in that history.  I also love "Let Us Build Us a City" because it was the first one I read, the one that made me the obsessive fan I am.
