Well, I'm certainly glad to be here! My name is Gary Carden and I am a deaf storyteller who lives in the edge of the Great Smokies National Park not far from the Cherokee Indian Reservation (actually called the Qualla Indian Boundary.) I am a former teacher (English and drama), but had to give up teaching when my hearing loss became critical. I worked for the Cherokees for twelve years as a grants writer and then became a storyteller. I have a website: TanneryWhistle.com. I am a playwright and I'm currently working on a drama based on Horace Kephart and the creation of the Park. I paint a little and have written four plays and a book (Mason jars in the Flood). I read my first Harington novel three weeks ago (With) and it definitely cleaned my brain stem. I immediately got on ABE and ordered seven Harington novels. I'm about 80 pages intoButterfly Weedand I love it - especially since Vance Randolph is the protagonist. I have collected folklore all of my life and Randolph is my favorite. I climbed up in the attic today and found Robert Cochran's biography of Randolph and checked the reference to Harington. I intend to read all of the books, of course, but not in any order. I'll probably readThe Choiring of Treesnext because I read the first chapter when it came. Now, who can pass up a hook like that? Whistle20 (Gary Carden) E-mail: GCarden498@aol.com
